La bÚsqUedA deL “Ser”/The Search for “Being” (2004-2006)

Portraiture has been one of the central elements of my artistic practice, driven by an ongoing search for who we are and an exploration of the underlying factors that shape our identities. Each identity unfolds into a multiplicity of personalities that calls into question the notion of the self as an individual, since what we know as the “I” is an intricate diversity of circumstances, appropriations, and conditioning—a product of the infinite accumulation of events that shape our being.

I am interested in the multiplicity of distinctive traits that exist within the subject: its beauty, its flaws, and the physiological record of how life passes through us, of what is inherited and what is induced. I explore the different possibilities that each particularity offers, bringing them into the realm of personification, the vulnerability of being, and the constant effervescence of characters with whom we identify and whom we appropriate, revealing our desires at every moment, creating fantasies and fictions, and embodying what we are, what we are not, and what we would like to be.

Personification becomes a meeting point between reality and fiction, the result of an agglomeration of infinite possibilities.
